Aligama Cottage, a holiday guest destination situated close to Wasgamuwa Wild Life Sanctuary. It is approx. 40km or an hour’s drive from the historic town of Mahiyangana with its nearby Dambana ‘Wadda’ Village. We are 2.5 hours drive from the Buddhist Sacred cities of Dambulla and Polonnaruwa which are en route to Trincomalee and Batticaloa.
Wasgamuwa Wild Life Sanctuary is famous for its wild elephants, and containing some of the largest individuals of the species in Sri Lanka. Visitors to the Park may witness the natural habitat of many other species including the Endemic red-faced Malkoha who is a resident bird in the park, Chestnut-winged Cuckoo, Peacock, Mugger Crocodile, Wild Boar, Sloth Bear and Leopard. It is a 7 minute drive from the Cottage to the Park. Also, we do arrange for our visitors Safari day tours departing from Aligama Cottage at a reasonable cost.
Our waterfront property on Gamburu Oya Lake with its backdrop of surrounding paddy fields & imposing distant Knuckle Mountain Range provide a picturesque setting that offers Privacy & Tranquillity.
In a secure environment, our visitors can experience bathing & row boating in the lake. For the fitness enthusiasts, Cycling, Hiking, Rock climbing & strolling down to the village would be a delight.
Our accommodation, with or without air-conditioning, hot water & meals etc., is designed to attract the dedicated Naturalist, Eco Adventurer or equally, the fun loving visitor seeking solitude and relaxation.
